Canadian test address format and validation
A Canadian test address normally uses a street line followed by the municipality, two-letter province or territory code, and alphanumeric postal code. Use this structure for QA fixtures and choose a regional generator above when the form needs a generated record.
Field template
[Street number] [Street name]
[Municipality] [Province code] [A1A 1A1 postal code]
Canada
Validation checklist
- Keep the municipality separate from the two-letter province or territory code.
- Insert one space between the first and second three-character postal-code blocks.
- Select the country as Canada and keep generated contact details fictional.
- Use the regional pages for local coverage notes, area codes, and representative localities.
Official format translated into form fields
Canada Post places the municipality, official province or territory abbreviation, and postal code on the final domestic line. The postal code is uppercase, has one internal space, and has no hyphen; postal mail convention uses two spaces between the province code and postal code. NorthMock applies the field structure for development tests but does not claim postal certification or guaranteed delivery. Review the Canada Post civic-address guidelines for mailing requirements.
Units and address line 2
For unit tests, try the unit before the civic number with a hyphen, after the street type with a recognized designator, and on a separate line. Keep the civic number before the street name.
Postal code, FSA, and LDU
Treat the postal code as a six-character string split into a three-character Forward Sortation Area (FSA) and three-character Local Delivery Unit (LDU). Preserve the middle space in display values.
Canada address-form QA matrix
Use these cases to test acceptance, normalization, error messages, exports, and round-trip persistence. They describe field behavior rather than deliverable example addresses.
| Case | Fixture | Expected behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Standard civic record | Address line, municipality, province code, and A1A 1A1 postal pattern | Accept and preserve the middle space |
| Missing postal space | A1A1A1 as input | Normalize deliberately or show a clear validation message |
| Hyphenated postal code | A1A-1A1 | Reject or normalize; do not present it as Canada Post display format |
| Unit address | Unit-civic format or a separate address line 2 | Keep unit data instead of silently dropping it |
| Province mismatch | Postal FSA outside the selected province allocation | Flag the inconsistency without claiming deliverability |
| Accented municipality | A valid proper name such as a French-language locality | Preserve Unicode characters through UI, CSV, and JSON |
